In honour of the visit of Kathryn White to the Mother City, bookish folk will be meeting at Caffe Neo (opposite the Mouille Point lighthouse in Beach Road) this Friday afternoon (that’s tomorrow).
Lauren (she of international Moxy fame) and I will be there at 3.30, Miz Kitty will join us shortly thereafter, and others who blog here are invited, nay, encouraged to join us. We will be drinking the rest of Moxy’s UK launch champagne — thanks Lauren! — and watching the light sparkle on the sea (if the weather forecasters are telling the truth). Join us as soon as you can throw off your shackles of employment — Caffe Neo is open until 7pm.
Caffe Neo gets mixed reactions. Here’s a blog by someone who raved about it. Here’s one by someone who hated it. I can vouch for the charming service, but yes, the waitrons are rather inclined to spill coffee. And a slug once made its way out of my salad as I watched in fascinated horror (in theory, I was pleased to see proof of the organic credentials of the lettuce). I was given a fresh one (salad, not slug), I hasten to add, but they did charge me for it. But the location is utterly unbeatable, esp for sunset-watching and the ambience is perfect for a laid-back Friday afternoon. And those who over-indulge or grow rambunctious can walk things off on the promenade.
I don’t know about camomile, but mint tea is served at this establishment, and I’m sure they make cucumber sandwiches. There will be no Radium-style brawling, chicken-liver pelting or exchanging of underwear. We hope you’ll come anyway. (Especially you, Mr Ben-editor!)
Sven, Rustum, Alex: if any of you want a lift, my rusty chariot will be departing Mowbray at about ten past three.

I was about to say "Buggers! Now it's my turn to be jealous." But then I read that penultimate paragraph. Don't worry, Kate, there may be an after-party.

Ensalata de caracol. Sounds irresistible, add a pinch of salt and you get extra bubbles.

Pardon my Spanish, Sven, but did you just suggest turning Louis into a salad?
I like the idea of a Hello Kitty after-party. I would throw one as a matter of course, except I have no kitchen (two weeks and four days of washing up in the bath, using laundrettes and eating Woolies sarmies, and the builders aren't even halfway through).

I forgot to add: there's lots of free parking directly outside.

Not so much a bump, as a reminder: looking forward to seeing you. The wearing of lacy bras is optional. (With the usual CT ebb and flow of attenders, I still have space in my car for anyone wanting a lift from Mowbray to Mouille Point.)

Oh Kate, we missed you! So glad you are okay. We were worried. Kind Fiona and AR both sms-ed to let us know you had landed in the clutches of the medical establishment. We had a glorious time as the sun went down, but it would have been even better with you there. We drank to your good health. Many, many times. More later. Must feed the neglected fluffies.

Lots more photos, Rustum, be patient. Just not sure how to put them up, so I think I'm gonna send them over to Ben-editor. Plus a full and frank report.

Be-en, you are going to publish the photos I sent you, I hope? Or have you sent them to Heat magazine already? In which case, my fee is up for negotiation.
